1968 Chevelle Bezel for Roller Tachometer
The 1968 Chevelle / El Camino Roller Tachometer Bezel is a specialized, rectangular plastic trim insert designed specifically for the unique “roller style” or “blinkosator” in-dash tachometer. This piece installs directly over the cutaway opening in the center of the main instrument face plate, framing the rotating engine RPM barrel and providing a clean finish to the dash lens assembly.
Installation & Conversion Notes
- Converting a Non-Tach Dash: In 1968, standard factory dashboard face plates had a solid, blocked-off plastic center section where the clock or warning lights sat. If you are adding a roller tachometer to an original non-tach layout, you do not necessarily have to buy an expensive original tach dash housing. You can carefully cut out the blocked-off center rectangle using a Dremel tool, leaving an approximate 1/8″ lip, and then press-fit this exact plastic insert bezel over the freshly trimmed hole to hide the raw edges.
- Chrome Accents: While original factory bezels featured a thin, stamped-chrome edge trim along the border, many modern reproduction plastic bezels are shipped in a solid matte black finish. If you want a 100% factory assembly appearance, you can easily use a silver-chrome paint pen or fine foil tape to recreate the classic bright-work accent edge before securing it. [1]
