1970-1972 Door Hardware Mounting kit
For a 1970–1972 Chevrolet Chevelle restoration, a door hardware mounting kit is an essential 25-to-27-piece assembly of factory-correct bolts, screws, and specialized fasteners.
Because standard replacement components like window regulators, door latches, and track assemblies rarely ship with installation hardware, these master kits provide all the specific thread pitches, shoulder bolts, and flat-head screws needed to properly secure the inner workings of a single door. One kit completes one door; you will need to purchase two if you are rebuilding both the driver and passenger sides.
What is Included in the Kit?
These kits are highly valued because they include the distinct, hard-to-find hardware configurations unique to the 1970–1972 GM A-body door shell structure:
- The Double-Ended Stud: Includes the unique double-ended mounting stud required specifically to secure and adjust the rear window vertical guide track.
- Latch & Lock Screws: Countersunk, heavy-thread screws designed to mount the door latch mechanism flush against the door jamb face.
- Regulator & Track Bolts: Flanged hex-head bolts to secure both manual or power window regulators and internal horizontal track assemblies.
- Sash & Stop Hardware: Correct shoulder hardware to clamp down the upper glass sash channel, inner sash assemblies, and lower rubber window travel stops.
- Handle Assembly: Mounting fasteners for the inner door opening mechanism and remote control rod guide bracket.
🛠️ Restoration Assembly Strategy
- Fit Left or Right: These hardware kits are completely universal between the driver or passenger side doors.
- Track Lubrication: Before using your fresh hardware to lock down the window tracks and regulators, clean out any old solidified factory grease from the channel guides. Apply a fresh coating of white lithium grease or specialized track lubricant so your window glass glides smoothly without straining the fresh mounting bolts.
- Rust Prevention: While you have the inner door panels completely gutted to install this hardware, it is the perfect opportunity to clean the lower door bottom drain slots and apply a rust-encapsulating coating inside the bottom of the door skin where condensation naturally settles.
